Contemplative Practices

Contemplative practices are the foundation for the contemplative life (via contemplativa). The contemplative life is not a separate existence from the active life (via activa), but is rather the foundation thereof. We teach contemplative practices designed for those who have jobs, families, and responsibilities in the world. At the same time, we recognize that enjoying the richness offered by contemplative practice cannot be achieved through externally directed activities alone, but must include the transformative practices of contemplation. These then enliven, illuminate, and inform our actions from the inside out. Thus, rather than living in sheer reaction to external circumstances and events, we are able to bring depth of understanding, tranquility, and clarity to all that we may do—regardless of our circumstances.
